About Carla

Carla Labat is an Associate Broker with Long & Foster Real Estate, Chevy Chase Office, Washington, DC and licensed in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, DC . She has served as a full-time real estate consultant with Long & Foster Real Estate | Forbes Global Properties specializing in residential sales servicing Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia since 2003. From January 2020 to April 2024, Carla served as the Managing Broker for Long & Foster, Georgetown Office. 

 

Prior to real estate, Carla spent several years in New York in the fashion industry, starting her career in retail store management and later advancing to the position of buyer for handbags and accessories.  As the handbag buyer, Carla traveled to Europe to work with top design houses to create exclusive private-label luxury products. Those early years in Manhattan and traveling internationally prepared Carla for her next challenge as a food and travel writer.  Carla authored two books, Satisfy your Soul, a Guide to African American, African & Caribbean Restaurants (Impressions Books, 1996) and Steppin’ Out, An African American Entertainment Guide to our 20 Favorite Cities (Avalon Publishing,2000). Her articles on food and travel were featured in the New York Times, USA Today and various other travel magazines and web sites.

 

Carla learned the importance of community and giving back from her parents, starting at an early age during the time when her father was the Peace Corps director for West Africa and stationed in Dakar, Senegal. This global introduction to the world, along with a year in a Swiss boarding school truly gave direction to the type of person Carla want to become; creative, inspired and the opportunity to serve others.

 

Carla’s has served as Board President of Global Sustainable Partnerships (GSP), a 501(c) 3 that among other services, provides access to clean and safe drinking water for children in developing countries. In addition, Carla serves on the is the local board of National Capital Area CARES (NCA CARES), the local arm of the National CARES Mentoring Movement. Carla has co-hosted multiple fundraising events for, among others, the Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial, the United Negro College Fund, National CARES Mentoring Movement, GSP and Habitat for Humanity.

 

Carla is the president for the Washington Real Estate Brokers Association (WREBA), the local arm of the National Association of Real Estate Brokers (NAREB). NAREB is one of the nation’s oldest African American associations whose mission is not only to strengthen the professional and businesses conditions of its members but to remediate disparate and discriminatory housing and property ownership policies and practices prevailing today.
